Actor Dharmendra’s known to be quite an authoritative figure when it comes to being a dad to sons actors Sunny and Bobby Deol, but when it comes to daughters Esha and Ahana, he’s purely a doting father. “You have to be stricter with sons to discipline them, but daughters are more special,” says the veteran star. “Yes, papa’s more of a friend to us. I can discuss just about anything with him,” chips in Esha. “You know that someday they will get married and go to their husband’s house. So you want to hold on to them even more dearly,” says Dharmendra rather emotionally.
Today being Father’s Day, though both Esha and Dharmendra insist that all days spent together are special to them and not just Father’s Day, they admit that they do look forward to celebrating it. In fact, Esha even recalls picking up cuddly teddy bears and cards for her dad. But this time around it’s Dharmendra who’s a dad on a mission as he reveals, “We are looking for a boy for Esha!”
Yes, talks of Esha’s marriage have already begun in the Deol household, even as Esha says that there’s still time. “Arranged marriages are not for me. I need to fall in love, but yes parents’ approval matters the most,” she says. “Looking for the perfect boy for your daughter is never easy.” And Esha is quick to add that it’s going to be tougher since ‘Papa’s set such a high benchmark already.’ “Every girl looks out for her father’s qualities in her husband as well. It’ll be hard to find anyone matching up to him.”
But Dharmendra reveals that as a father he does have one regret — that he did not encourage Esha to take up football. “Esha was always so good at it, I wish I had allowed her to play on a national level. I didn’t because I was over-protective. Today I do feel the pinch.” But Esha brushes it off. “Dad did what was best for us. All I know is that as a dad he has given us the best memories a daughter can ever have and that’s what I will cherish for life,” she smiles
