Imran Khan started drinking alcohol at the age of 18

Imran Khan

Bollywood actor Imran Khan has launched a campaign against a new law which raises the legal drinking age for hard liquor from 21 to 25 in India's western Maharashtra state. Imran Khan made a flashy entry with his iPad in hand, while he was in the capital to address a press conference regarding his PIL. He is of the view that if one can vote at the age of eighteen and get married too then, why the drinking age has been raised to twenty five.

Clarifying himself, he said “I am not in favour of consumption of alcohol, as I am aware of the damage that alcohol does to health. But, I am of the view at everyone who is an adult, is a responsible individual in himself to know what is right or wrong for him, so why should the government interfere and decide things for him. Hand-holding should not happen”.

The actor, who holds a US citizenship said that he would file the PIL through his lawyers in Maharashtra. Imran also confessed that he started drinking at the age of 18 and had his first peg with his parents, justifying that his parents have never stopped him from doing anything, so he know his responsibilities. He also added that the recent decision of the State Government to raise the legal drinking age from 21 to 25 is illogical and counterproductive.

Substantiating his point, he said “If at the age of 18, the government considers one to be an adult, then they should be free to indulge in any legal activity of their choice. Moreover, drinking and smoking is legal in our country”.

Further more, the actor has also started with a Facebook page titled “Power of Youth”. “I represent the youth and they are my target audience. I am of the opinion that respect should be earned and not borrowed. I don’t endorse drinking, but I believe in personal freedom. These social platforms will help and engage the youth to express their views and it will reach a wider audience for sure”.

When quizzed about why was he not lending support for issues like corruption and other ills of society, he said, “There are so many issues, if I stand for one, people will surely ask why did I leave the other one.”

Guess Imran is nothing short of becoming the latest youth icon for today's generation!!!
